iFlexis in a nutshell

The target of i-FLEXIS is the development of an innovative, reliable and low-cost integrated X-ray sensor system based on heterogeneous inorganic, organic and hybrid components.

It offers real time, direct X-ray detection, room temperature operation and a "designed for industrial production" approach, delivering operationally robust and environmentally friendly devices surpassing current state-of-the-art sensors

Context

The detection of X‐rays is an important task in a number of industrially and socially relevant activities.

Many applications would take advantage of large area, thin and flexible ionizing radiation sensing systems able to operate at room temperature and to detect X‐rays in real time at affordable costs, but the technologies today available cannot deliver all these features in one single object.

iFlexis approach and Innovative aspects

i-FLEXIS integrates three major novel components to achieve totally new sensing systems:
i) organic single crystals as the active, X-ray direct sensing material and
ii) flexible transparent electronics integrated in low cost plastic substrates;
iii) readout electronics based on fully printed organic/inorganic CMOS platform, away from the conventional silicon technology.
